In this Garden Room Build series, I take you through the end to end steps to build a soundproof music or drum studio / practice room. We will cover each step in detail, from laying the foundation, building the walls, adding a roof and internal finishing. The guide is designed to be a an aid for those with some basic DIY skills who may be considering to build something similar themselves.
In this first video of the series I provide an introduction to the garden room build which will be used as a drum studio. I’ll cover the key garden room design considerations including planning permission and design of the building itself.
In this post we go step by step through the process I followed to build the concrete slab base used as the foundation of the garden room. We will cover digging the hole, added crushed hardcore, sand, damp proof membrane, PIR insulation, A142 mesh, cable ducting, the concrete pour, levelling and anchor bolts.
In this chapter I will be building the timber framed walls. More unusually for a garden room we will have both external walls and internal walls as we will be using a method of soundproofing known as “room in a room”.
